The Certificate module creates customizable PDF certificates for students in a CourseSpaces course. You can add borders, watermarks, seals and even show grade information.

To issue certificates:

  • Turn editing on.
  • Click the Add an activity or resource link.
  • Click the Certificate radio button in the Activity section and click the Add button.
  • Add a certificate name and introduction, if applicable
  • Options:
  1. Issue options: Choose whether or not instructors receive an email when the certificate is generated and how the certificate is delivered to the student. You can choose to save the issued certificates as pdfs. You can require that students spend a certain number of minutes in the course. Click on the question mark next to each of the settings to explore options.
  2. Text options: Select the date to be displayed on the certificate as well as a grade, if applicable. You also have the ability to add custom text to the certificates. Click on the question mark next to each of the settings to explore options.

  3. Design options: If you wish to use UVic's custom certificate template (Edge branding) choose the 'UVic_Custom' option in the 'Certificate Type' setting. You can also customize the certificate’s design by including a watermark, signature, logo, and borders (for these customizations to work, you must de-select the 'UVic_Custom' certificate type).  Click on the question mark next to each of the settings to explore options.

  • Save the certificate.
  • Click on Certificate in your course. You will see the certificate has been issued and the date issued.
