Add a Book

This resource allows instructors to create a book-like structure with page navigation, page numbers, chapters and sub-chapters, and a table of contents. The advantage of using a Book is that it allows the instructor more control over related course materials by placing them all in one object. Although it is designed primarily for documentation, images can also be included, as well as links to external websites. When you initially create a Book the first page is blank. From there, you can build your book with the content you desire.

  1. Click the Add an activity or resource link in the course section where you want the Book to be listed.
  2. Click the Book radio button in the Resources section and click the Add button.
  3. In the Name field, enter a required name. This name will appear on the course home page.
  4. There are a variety of settings to choose from when setting up your book. If you are unsure what they mean, select the question mark beside each.
  5. Click Save and display to view the Book and begin adding content.

Add Content to a Book

  1. Enter the title of the chapter in the Chapter title field.
  2. Enter the chapter content in the Content field.
  3. Click the Save changes button once you are satisfied with the content of the first page of the book.
  4. Click the add icon ( + ) next to chapter’s name listed in the Table of Contents block (left hand side of screen in CourseSpaces) to add a new chapter to the book.
  5. To edit the exisiting chapter, click on the wheel/sprocket icon next to the chapter's name in the Table of Contents block.
