Create Quiz

The quiz activity allows instructors to create:

  • Pre-assessments:  a way to determine what students know about a topic before it is taught.
  • Self-assessments:  to help students discover their knowledge strengths and weaknesses.
  • Post-assessments: a way to determine what students know about a topic after it has been taught.

Development of a Quiz Activity

A quiz consists of three main development parts which must be kept in mind:

  1. A quiz shell or container with settings (what the student click on in the main course area)
  2. The questions that you create and then add to the specific quiz.
  3. Question order, point value, layout, and quiz score.

The quiz shell contains the configurations of the quiz: name, description, open/close dates, # of attempts, etc. The questions are linked to the quiz from the Question Bank. The Edit Quiz function allows for layout and score/point factors. This may sound confusing, but by using a step-by-step methodical approach the basic process of quiz creation will become clear.

Special Note: It is important that you take the time to develop a quiz, and also test (preview) it.  If not, you and your students may encounter issues that are impossible to correct once students have started taking the specific quiz.
